What I'm Consuming Lately

(a running list of things keeping me sane)

This is going to be a living blog. I'll be updating it as my current hyperfixations, comfort content, and "things helping me function like a person" shift, 'cause they always do.

If you like this kind of thing, feel free to check back. Or don't. I'll still be here, adding stuff as I go.

🎧 Music Rotation

I’ve been leaning hard into music as a reset button lately. Whether I’m mixing polish, packing orders, or just trying to get through the day without my brain short-circuiting, having something playing helps a lot.

Lately it’s been a mix of:

King Mala
Ashnikko
James The Seventh
Ludo... Duh

(If you’ve got recs, I will absolutely take them 👀)

📺 Youtube/ Background Noise

YouTube has been one of the easiest ways for me to unwind without committing to a whole show.

I live for renovation content. Especially 200+ year old buildings being brought back to life. But I also love a good DIY moment that I will absolutely convince myself I can do one day. I swear, this summer is the year I rip out all my carpet to reveal the OG hardwood floors.

This is what I’ve been watching lately:

Smosh Pit (reading Reddit is a staple at this point) ... I am actively playing this while writing this blog.

It’s basically my version of putting on a comfort show, just with more variety and zero commitment.

🧶 Things I'm Doing With My Hands

Crocheting has officially become a thing for me this year—but not in a casual “picked up a hobby” way. I have a very specific goal.

I’m teaching myself to crochet so I can make myself a top.

This all started because I bought a top last year that I love. Like… truly adore. But it was expensive, it’s white, and somehow made of acrylic (???), which means:

-it's not really meant to be washed

-it's already a little itchy after wearing it twice

-& I'm now too scared to actually wear it

So it just hangs in my closet while I stare at it, fully convinced I’ll ruin it the second I put it on.

Naturally, my solution was: I’ll just learn how to make it myself.

So that’s the plan. I’m recreating it in cotton so it’s actually wearable and washable, and making it an off-white so I’m not living in fear of a single drop of anything.

It’s been a learning curve, but also really satisfying. There’s something nice about taking a problem and turning it into “guess I’ll just learn a whole new skill."

🌱 Touching Grass ( Literally)

I used to be really into houseplants. Like… a lot of them.

Somewhere over the past few years, I stopped. Between everything going on with my mom and just trying to keep life moving, it was one of those things that just fell off.

But since buying this house, I’ve had a very specific vision living in my head:

Ripping out the boxwood bushes in the front yard (because they straight up smell like cat pee) and replacing them with native Missouri wildflowers to support pollinators.

And this year, I finally did it.

The bushes are gone. I planted 1/4 lb of native seeds.
We’re currently on day 3, so nothing to report yet—but I am fully invested.

It feels good to be back in it, even in a different way. Less perfection, more “let’s see what grows.”

📬 Something Good In My Mailbox

Not email. Actual, physical mail. Old school.

I subscribed to the print newspaper from Good Good Good, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite things to receive.

I’m always looking for places to find genuinely good news. Something that adds even a small amount of hope when everything else feels like nonstop “current events.”

Also, I get so much mail I didn’t ask for. Ads, credit card offers, “your warranty is about to expire” energy. All of it.

So it’s really nice to open the mailbox and see something I actually want in there for once.

It’s thoughtful, positive, and feels intentional in a way most things don’t right now.

Keeping It Simple

That’s kind of the theme right now: simple, grounding, and a little comforting.

Nothing groundbreaking. Just things that help me stay steady, keep creating, and not completely lose it in the process.

If you’ve found something lately that’s helping you feel even 5% more human, I’d genuinely love to hear it.

Notes for Future Cassi (and easy updates)

-add new sections instead of over-editing old ones

-swap things out when they no longer hit

-don't over think it... seriously, this is for fun.
