How to Get the Best Magnetic Mani

I’ll be the first to admit it - magnetic polishes are not my forte. But you Babbs kept asking for them, so I had to dive in and make it happen. Now, I’m here to give you the scoop on how to get that swoon-worthy magnetic effect without losing your mind. Spoiler: it’s not gel, it’s regular polish, so we’re moving fast and keeping it LOUD.

The Basics

Magnetic nail polish is packed with tiny metallic particles that respond to a magnet, creating cool, shifty patterns when held in place. Unlike gel, which cures under a lamp and locks the effect in place, regular polish dries quickly - so timing is everything.

Types of Magnets

There are a few different magnetic wands you can use, including:

  • Cat Eye Magnet: Creates that classic diagonal line effect.
  • Circle Magnet: Adds a circular burst effect that looks super trippy.
  • Bar Magnet: Creates bold, sweeping lines that shift as you move.

How to Apply Magnetic Polish:

1: Base Coat: Always start with your favorite base coat to protect those nails.

Optional Base Color: Some magnetic shades really pop over black or another dark color. Totally optional, but it’s a vibe.

2: First Magnetic Coat: Apply your first coat of magnetic polish to ONE nail. Hold the magnet in place for 45-60 seconds to set the effect.

3: Repeat: Apply a second and third coat, repeating the magnet step each time for maximum impact.

4: Top Coat: This is the big one - apply your top coat to ONE nail at a time and hold the magnet again for 45-60 seconds. This last step locks in the design and keeps that effect looking sharp.
